LDPE Plastic Bags
LDPE Plastics, or low-density polyethene, is a soft and flexible polymer. LDPE has a lower density, strength, and temperature resistance than High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), known for its higher specific strength and heat resistance. The polybag structure features a higher degree of short and long side-chain branching, produced at a 1000-3000 high bar pressure and a low temperature of 80ºC-300°C. Its manufacturing process, known as Free Radical Polymerisation, is a chain-growth polymerisation that occurs when the polymer forms through consecutive additions of unsaturated monomer molecules to an active, free radical centre.
The formation of this plastic material makes it a suitable polymer with excellent processability. It has a high impact strength at low-temperature levels, chemical resistance, good weather, excellent electrical insulator, low water absorption, meets FDA regulations, and is transparent in thin foil film.
Benefits
- Lightweight, low-cost and weatherproof
- Excellent Insulator – Unlike HDPE, this plastic material incorporates unique insulation properties, which makes it ideal for protecting electronic equipment without causing electric sparks that might potentially result in damage to electronics.
- Highly Flexible and Transparent – The high flexibility of the material makes it easy to process and mould into various shapes and sizes to meet different applications.
- Recyclable – Like most other plastic materials, they require more than 100 years to decompose. Hence, LDPE-made products should be recycled and reused whenever possible. Recycled LDPE can form products such as shipping envelopes, trashcans, compost bins, garbage can liners, floor tile, furniture, and many more.
Application
Categorised and featured as the number 4 plastic, the Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Plastic Bags’ main application is for film applications. Typical products from the material include food plastic bags, shrink wrap, stretch film, and other packaging solutions. This is made possible due to the plastic material’s physical properties, which provide excellent resistance to chemicals such as alcohols, dilute alkalis and acids, and other elements that include moisture, dust, dirt, oil, and grease. Furthermore, it is also FDA-approved, making it safe for contact with food products.
Here at Stream Peak, we offer other packaging solutions for food products. Desiccants, oxygen absorbers, and ethylene absorbers are available to prolong the shelf life of food products and maintain their freshness and quality. Read here to learn more about LDPE Plastic bags.
