Ethylene Absorbers are used to prolong the freshness of your fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Stream Peak’s ethylene absorbers, called Bi-On, consist of a mixture of porous clays and potassium permanganate (KMnO4). Bi-On removes ethlyene gas and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from food, which keeps perishable produce fresh for a longer time.
The Ethylene Absorbers adopt a combination of two-step process to control harmful gasses. The ethylene molecules will first be removed and absorbed into the pore openings of the natural clay, binding with the pellets. Next, oxidation will cause the pellets to change from purple in colour to brown. This will visually alert users that the Ethylene absorber filter is saturated and requires replacement.
Hence, Ethylene Absorbers can slow down the ripening process without releasing any artificial chemicals.
